BT Wi-fi (including BT Openzone) is a wi-fi broadband service that you can access in public places called hotspots. These include airports, hotels, coffee shops, motorway service stations and city centres. Get online at over 5 million BT Wi-fi hotspots throughout the UK and Ireland, and at selected locations outside the UK.
When you join BT Wi-fi as a BT Broadband customer, your BT Hub becomes a wi-fi hotspot. In return, you get access to millions of other hotspots worldwide for free.
How do I get it?
If you've got BT Broadband or BT Mobile, you get BT Wi-fi for free with unlimited minutes using BT Wi-fi hotspots across the UK and around the world.
I've got BT Mobile
We'll nudge you to download the BT Wi-fi app when you join BT Mobile. Or you can find it yourself in your app store. It's available for iPhone, iPad and Android.
The app gets you online in a flash, for free, without eating into your data allowance. By using it, you'll only ever need to log in once. After that it'll connect to a hotspot for you whenever you're in range.

Remember, before you use any wi-fi network, you'll need to make sure your phone's wi-fi is turned on.
If your phone's not compatible with the app, you can sign in to the BT Wi-fi network using the BT ID and password you used to activate your mobile service. When your phone sees a BT Wi-fi network, just try to access a website using the browser on your phone. You'll then be prompted for your BT ID and password. Put them in to continue surfing.
I've got BT Broadband
Since March 2009 all new BT Broadband customers are automatically members of BT Wi-fi. You’ll need confirmation of your broadband order and to set up a BT ID >
There's no need to wait for your broadband to be installed. You can start using our BT Wi-fi hotspots as soon as you receive your order confirmation.

Click on Register for BT Wi-fi (if you’re not sure if you’re registered or not, click on Check my status to get details of your account)
You'll need your BT ID or your @btinternet.com (or @btopenworld.com) email address, which acts as your username, plus your email address password.
Once you’ve registered for BT Wi-fi you’ll be able to use the BT Wi-fi hotspots within a couple of hours. Your BT Hub will be set up so that other members can use it as a hotspot within a couple of days.

If you're not a member of BT Wi-fi you can buy a voucher to access the internet from a BT Wi-fi hotspot in advance. Alternatively, when you're out and about and want to connect, simply scan for wi-fi signals. If you're in range of a hotspot and attempt to connect, you'll be directed to the BT Wi-fi landing page, where you can buy passes from as little as £4.
