Do Powerline Adapters work with anti-surge extension leads (power strips)?

Big things are coming at EE

BT and EE are part of the same family, and big things are coming for the EE brand. But this won't change any of the BT services you have with us today. Read more about the changes coming to EE.

Your Powerline Adapters will only work properly if you plug them directly into a wall socket, and not into extension leads.

Most models of Powerline Adapters have a plug socket, which means you won't lose a mains socket after it's been plugged in.

There are two types of anti-surge extension leads on the market in the UK.

  1. The basic models provide simple protection for a surge increase in mains voltage
  2. More expensive models have this feature, but also include a filter which provides protection against EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) or RFI (Radio Frequency Interference)

Every house has different wiring set ups, and it is impossible to say which anti-surge protectors will work with Powerline Adapters and which won't. Our test lab and user tests have shown that the more expensive strips with EMI/RFI filters are more likely to prevent Powerline Adapters working than the basic strips. The 'Status' or 'Data light' on the Adapters will show red if there's a problem.
