BT Smart Controls FAQs - General settings

Big things are coming at EE

BT and EE are part of the same family, and big things are coming for the EE brand. But this won't change any of the BT services you have with us today. Read more about the changes coming to EE.

How do I access camera settings?

In the BT Smart Controls App:

  1. Log in to the BT Smart Controls App on your device
  2. Tap the Settings button on the top right of the camera window

Where can I find the night vision settings and how do I control it?

In the BT Smart Controls App:

  1. Log in to the BT Smart Controls App
  2. Tap the Settings icon next to your camera
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Night Vision is the first option available

Here you can turn the night vision 'ON' or 'OFF' or select 'Auto night vision mode'.

Tip: If you have your camera pointing out of a window, it’s best to switch night vision to 'OFF', otherwise you'll see a reflection of the infrared lights that allow the Night Vision feature.

How do I adjust the video streaming quality?

Your video quality is always set to 720p, however it's then compressed to make sure you don’t use up too much of your mobile data allowance.

By default, the video setting is set to Medium. To change this follow the below steps:

  1. Log in to the BT Smart Controls App
  2. Tap the Settings icon next to your camera
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Scroll down to Video Bit Rate
  5. Change to Low, Fair or Good

Alternatively, this setting is available at the top right of the screen when viewing the camera.

If you've a data cap of 1GB or less, it's recommended you set this to 'Low' to avoid using up too much of your mobile data allowance.

How do I access the live camera stream?

In the BT Smart Controls App:

  1. Log in to the BT Smart Controls App
  2. Tap on your camera
  3. It will then load the live camera stream

Within the Smart Controls 3.0 update, we introduced a quick-view feature which allows you to start the camera feed without access to melodies, camera panning or talk back features. It can be activated in the dashboard by tapping the play button (marked Quick View) on the bottom left of the camera preview. If you would still like access to all of the camera features, just tap on the camera image.

Can I monitor the sound without keeping my app open?

Yes, this feature is available and is called ‘Background Monitoring’. It can be a useful feature if you've placed your device in a baby’s room or nursery.

In the BT Smart Controls App:

  1. Log in to the BT Smart Controls App
  2. Tap Settings
  3. Turn ON “Background Monitoring”
  4. Select the camera you would like to view
  5. Press the Home button on your device to put the app in background mode

  2. Tap your camera to view the live video stream

  4. Tap the camera icon to take a snapshot or record a video

Screenshots and recordings will be stored on your device. iOS devices will store these in Photos, and Android devices in a folder named after your username. If you can’t see the folder on your Android device, try downloading a photo viewer app from the Google Play store.

How do I activate 2-way talk mode, play melodies or pan the camera through the app?

  2. Tap your camera to view the live video stream

How do I rotate the screen if I want to mount the camera upside down?

There can be situations where you'll need to rotate the live stream. For example, if you mount the camera to a wall upside down, by default your stream would be upside down as well.

To rotate the live stream:

  1. Log in to the BT Smart Controls App
  2. Tap the Settings icon next to your camera
  3. Tap Settings
  4. Set 'Ceiling Mount' to ON. This will rotate your camera by 180 degrees
