What's the difference between an Account holder and an Account manager in My BT?

Every BT ID has an account role attached to it. You'll either be an Account holder or an Account manager.

What is a BT ID and how can I get one? >

Account holder (Primary BT ID)

You're the legal owner of the account. You're responsible for paying the bills and for deciding who has access to the BT services you pay for. You can:

  • Use services
  • View bills
  • Manage settings online
  • Manage phone settings
  • Access all BT Extras such as BT Sport, BT Cloud, BT Wi-fi, BT Email, TrueKey, BT Parental Controls, BT Web Protect and BT Virus Protect

Account manager (Additional BT ID)

You have access to someone else's BT account and to some of the BT services they pay for. You can:

  • View bills
  • Manage settings online
  • Manage phone settings
  • Access some BT Extras such as BT Email, TrueKey and BT Virus Protect

To check which role is attached to your BT ID, please follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to My BT >
  2. Click on Settings and Your account
  3. Scroll down and you’ll see if you’re an Account holder or Account manager

If your BT ID is linked to more than one account number, it's possible to have a different account status for each account.

Please follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to My BT >
  2. Click on Settings and Your account
  3. Scroll down and you'll see if you're an Account holder or Account manager
  4. Click on the I should be the Account holder link and follow the steps

If you've already got a BT ID, please follow the steps below:

  1. Log in to My BT >
  2. Click on Settings and Your account
  3. Scroll down and you’ll see if you’re an Account holder or Account manager
  4. To add an account, go to Multiple accounts then click Add an account and follow the steps. You'll need the BT account number of the account you'd like to manage online

If you haven't got a BT ID and want to become an Account manager on someone else's account:

  1. You need an email address and the BT account number of the account you want to manage
  2. Follow these steps to Create a BT ID - make sure you select 'I do not want this to be the Primary BT ID for this account' when you sign up
  3. Once you're set up, the Account holder will see you as an Account manager on their accounts screen
