Learn about Netflix

Netflix is a subscription-based streaming service that allows you to watch award-winning TV shows, movies, documentaries and more without adverts. The more you watch, the better Netflix gets at recommending what you’ll enjoy.

Whether you're a new or existing BT TV customer, you can now enjoy Netflix as part of one of our TV bundles. If you sign up to an Entertainment, Big Entertainment or VIP bundle, then your bundle will automatically include Netflix. If you sign up to a bundle that doesn’t have Netflix included, you can add Netflix to your BT bill on a 30-day rolling monthly subscription.

Subscribing to Netflix with BT will allow you to watch Netflix via the Netflix App on the BT TV box,  as well as on thousands of your favourite internet enabled devices such as smartphones, tablets and computers.

If you already have Netflix, there’s no need to cancel. When you activate your bundle, we’ll provide you the option to move your existing account with all your history to your new BT TV bundle.

If you signed up to Netflix on BT TV before 12 November 2021 then you will have purchased this as an “add-on”. Add-ons can be added and removed from your package month-to-month.

If you sign up for Entertainment, Big Entertainment or a VIP bundle, then Netflix is automatically included in your monthly bill meaning you’ll pay for Netflix when you pay your TV and broadband bill.

If you signed up to Netflix on BT TV before 12 November 2021 then you will have purchased this as an “add-on”. Add-ons can be added and removed from your package month-to-month. Subscription charges will appear under the 'BT TV' section on your BT bill.

You may notice that the dates are slightly different to other BT products on your bill, as this depends on when you order your add-on.

Watching via the Netflix App on the BT TV box won't count towards your broadband usage. If you watch Netflix on any other devices in the home (such as smartphones, tablets and computers) connected to your BT Broadband, then it will count. If you have an unlimited broadband package, then you don't need to worry about this.

With all BT Broadband packages, your internet speed could slow down if you use any streaming services (including those on BT TV) at the same time as using your broadband for other purposes.

For advice on connection speeds and usage guidelines, go to www.netflix.com/help >

If you have parental controls set up on your TV box, you'll be prompted to enter your parental control PIN every time you enter the Netflix player on your box. You can find help resetting your PIN here >

Setting up and using Netflix from BT

If you’ve signed up to Netflix through BT then you need to activate your service for it to commence. Activating your Netflix account is important so that you can either set up a Netflix account, or bring your existing Netflix account over to BT.

To do this simply check your order confirmation email. You can also activate it by going onto the ‘TV and Sport’ section of My BT. You’ll be asked to enter an email address and password. You’ll also get the option to upgrade your Netflix plan.

If you signed up to Netflix through the Netflix App on your BT TV box, you simply need to log in to start watching.

If you've added Netflix to your BT TV account via BT.com, or with us over the phone, you will need to activate your account on your TV box.

When you activate your Netflix account through BT, we will switch your Netflix billing to BT. You’ll get the option to keep the Netflix plan that you’re on and you will keep your account details including your personal profiles and the history of the shows you’re watching. If you have Netflix with a third party, then you’ll need to cancel this directly with them.

If you're not presented with the option to add Netflix as an add-on when signing up via the TV box, it may be because you have an older version of the box. You can still add Netflix online at BT.com by visiting BT TV Packages and Extras >

You'll find the Netflix app in the 'Players & Apps' section of the YouView menu. Just press the blue Home button to get started.

Managing your Netflix account

It's easy to change your Netflix plan. Simply log into My BT and navigate to the ‘TV and Sport’ section under ‘Your products’. You can then manage your BT TV account and change your Netflix plan.

Any change in your plan will be reflected on your next BT bill and if you downgrade your plan, you’ll get a pro-rated refund for any days not used.

Yes, you can change the email address you use to login to Netflix in the 'Account' section at www.netflix.com >

You can remove the Netflix add-on from your TV account here >

There are no cancellation fees, but you won't get a refund for partial months you've already paid for. However you will have access to the service until the end of the month you've paid for.

If you were paying for Netflix before taking BT TV, Netflix will get in touch about continuing your subscription. If not, your Netflix subscription will stop at the same time as your BT TV service.

You’ll need to provide some details then Netflix will usually reset this for you in within a few minutes.

When you move home there's no break in your Netflix service, as you can still access it on any Netflix compatible device. If your Netflix is included in your TV package then remember to tell BT when you are moving house to ensure no break in service.

Netflix charges may not align with your BT billing cycle but don't worry; you won't be overcharged. Alternatively, you may have chosen to upgrade the Netflix plan that is included in your TV package, this will show in your BT bill.
